Behind the Scenes - Sound Design & Script

DEVELOPMENT LOG 1 - Behind the Scenes

Hey there! With the completed development of my free first indie game, Private Investigations, I wanted to celebrate its launch by quickly revealing some behind the scenes tidbits involved in its making such as its sound design and script!

// Behind The Scenes - Sound Design:

Employing Premiere Pro, I compiled and designed over 140 different audio files for the game’s soundtrack, ambience, and sound effects. Altogether, this is equivalent to nearly 2 hours worth of continuous audio.

In addition, I also implemented ambisonic audio (three-dimensional 360-degree audio) when designing the soundtrack, so as to further immerse the player in the soundscape of the game.

// Behind The Scenes - Script:

Acknowledging the limitations associated with the text adventure genre, I wanted to exceed the typical bleak descriptions of standard text adventures, and to instead invest a majority of the game’s development into writing a captivating, tightly-focused script that would immerse the player in the game’s world without the need for visuals.

As such, the game’s script is approximately 45 pages long, each of which all include hours of articulately pored-over writing.

// Creator's Note

Overall, I had an awesome time creating this game. Despite the restless nights and indecipherable errors thrown in from time to time, I still admit that this was a very rewarding project to undertake, and I’m very proud of what I’ve accomplished with it.

I’ve learned a lot from this task, not only in terms of code, but also in creating games in general, and I look forward to using my newfound knowledge to create an even better experience in the near future. Thank you for taking the time to read these behind the scenes tidbits, and I hope you try out my game!
